Diary kept by an unidentified person, believed to be a Mr Henderson, during the voyage of the convict ship Hashemy from England to Australia, 20 Nov. 1848 - 8 June 1849. Records the author's observations and experiences as a religious instructor to convicts, and his activities at Simonstown and Cape Town. Also includes a 3 page article entitled The Heshemy incident: the backlash against convicts by Brian H. Fletcher, in The Sydney Morning Herald "Good Weekend", 30 Jan. 1988.

The convict ship Hashemy was sent to New South Wales after the N.S.W. Legislative Council agreed to the re-introduction of transportation in a modified form. The ship met with a hostile reception from anti-transportationists, upon its arrival at Sydney.
