Items include: Kitchener's correspondence pertaining to the Boer War and World War I; his tour of Australia and New Zealand and views on the defences of these countries; correspondence on the Dardanelles expedition; his visit to Gallipoli; newspaper cuttings (1916-1938); congratulations on Kitchener's knighthood; his estate and personal correspondence; the death of Lord Kitchener. Correspondents, among others, include: Lord Roberts, St. John Broderick, Sir J. Maxwell and Sir Douglas Haig.
- Biography/History:

Horatio Herbert Kitchener was born in 1850. During the Boer War he was appointed Chief of Staff and then later become Commander in Chief. He visited Australia and New Zealand. World War I saw his appointment as Secretary of State for War. He lost his life on 5 June 1916 when H.M.S. Hampshire was sunk on her way to Russia.
