Biography/History

One of Australia's best-known pioneers in radio. He had early experience in radio as a wireless operator during World War I, and later worked as an engineer at Australia's first radio station, 2BL. He developed and patented a method of recording sound on film which was widely used in Australia. After serving with a radar unit in Sydney during World War II, he began campaigning for the introduction of television and F.M. radio in Australia. He was a president of the Institution of Radio Engineers of Australia, and in 1953 was appointed to the Australian Broadcasting Control Board.
