MS 890 comprises five letters by Lang on the federation of the Australian colonies; a list of questions submitted by Lang to Sir T. L. Mitchell; and a second edition copy of Vol. I of An historical and statistical account of New South Wales : both as a penal settlement and as a British colony (1837) containing Lang's handwritten amendments and annotations for the third edition.
- Biography/History:

Lang was born in Scotland, received his MA (1820) at Glasgow University and arrived in Australia in 1823. He established the first Presbyterian Church in Australia (Scots Church, opened 1826) and was a member of the Council and Legislative Assembly (1859). He was noted for his educational and anti-transportation views and for his work among immigrants.
