Dickson speaks about his parents' efforts to prevent the removal of their children by moving to Browns Flat Mission near Nowra, N.S.W. and then Kangaroo Valley. He was removed at the age of 4 with his three brothers to Kinchela Boys' Home, where he remained from 1946 until 1957. He describes the harsh living conditions at Kinchela and the circumstances surrounding his permanent hearing loss. He also talks about how childhood experiences have affected his later relationships.
