Kaszubski an engineer recalls marshal law being declared in Poland in 1980 resulting in the easing of immigration restriction for Polish people in other countries. He speaks about his family's arrival in Melbourne, Vic.under the Australian Assisted Passage Scheme in March 1981; his job with Siemens (Vic.) for 15 years firstly as senior service (electrical) engineer, which included several work trips all over Australia & to New Zealand; his promotion to Senior Project Engineer working on the automation & electrics part of the Anzac Ship Project; being sent by Siemens to Hamburg, Germany (1990-1991) to gain specific experience & knowledge; his promotion to senior design engineer on the Anzac Ship Project; return trips to Poland 1992 & 1996; his involvement in Polish community affairs; Vice-President & a member of the Victorian School of Languages Council; citizenship in 1984.
Kaszubski, born in Warsaw, Poland recalls his family's experiences during World War II ; his father was a barrister educated in Poland before the war & a political activist ; his mother was a history teacher at the secondary schools in Jelenia Gora, Poland; his studies in electronics at the Polytechnic School in Wrockaw, Poland; his work as a service specialist in electronic equipment at the Medical Academy of Wrockaw, Poland; his job in Iraq (1976-1980) to work for the Basrah University as a service engineer (scientific equipment); the political tensions in Poland in the 1970s-1980s & the Solidarity Movement; life under communist rule for non party members such as his family; the National Democratic Movement; Polish customs; the decision to emigrate in 1980, his family moving to England; his experiences of the Iran-Iraq war, fleeing to Kuwait, eventually obtaining a visa to England.
