This collection describes and documents the vibrant life of the Sunbury Pop Festival held over the Australia Day long weekend of 1972, where 45,000 people trekked out to George Duncan's farm 40 km from Melbourne. For six bucks, fans immersed themselves in a three day festival of heat, dust and hard sweaty guitar. Any dreams of a hippy utopia starting at Sunbury were swamped in rivers of beer. The sheer volume coming out of the huge Marshall stacks signalled a sonic victory for Billy Thorpe and the Aztec army. Sunbury heralded the golden age of Australia rock. What started in a paddock found its real following in the suburbs, in every pub and beer barn big and brave enough to slake the fans thirst for something loud and heavy.
