- Biography/History:
-
Charles Eden Wellings, son of Thomas Wellings and nephew of Percy Wellings, worked as a photographer in Eden before World War 1. At some stage he moved to Sydney and worked there as a photographer, taking photographs of Sydney and the Blue Mountains. He left Sydney quickly and returned to Eden, where he continued to earn a living as a photographer. Charles did not have a car and so carried his camera by foot to wherever he photographed. Between 1910 and 1912, he produced a film on whaling that was privately screened at a cinema in Sydney in 1912. In May 1944 he had a paper on 'The Killer Whales of Twofold Bay' published in the journal of the Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales. Charles took glass plate negatives up to the end of his career. He died in the early 1950s.
