The Eureka Youth League was a socialist youth organisation, founded in December 1941 after the banning of its predecessor the League of Young Democrats. The League flourished for nearly three decades making a significant contribution to the labour movement until it ended ca. 1970. It was active in issues such as the vote at 18, equal pay for women and girls, and playing sport on Sundays. It played a strong role in the anti-war movement. Blears was Secretary of the Eureka Youth League in the 1950s and the author of Together with us: a personal glimpse of the Eureka Youth League and its origins 1920 to 1970 (2002).
