Janine Schmidt born in Ipswich, Qld. speaks about her primary, secondary and tertiary education; on finishing her education, working for the University of Queensland Library; the reasons for her move to Melbourne and working for the CSIRO Library; following a move to Sydney working at the University of New South Wales Library and then the Library School at Kuringai where she worked from 1977 to 1986; the birth of her daughters, whilst working; being appointed the Director, Collection Services at the State Library of New South Wales; leaving that position to be the University Librarian at the University of Queensland where she stayed until 2005; at the time of the second part of this interview she had accepted the position of University Librarian at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; she talks freely of the challenges she faced as a married woman with children, and her drive and passion for making improvements in every position she occupied.
