- Map of the World showing the routes of emmigrant ships from Britain to the colonies, the extent and population of the British Empire, with the gold fields of Victoria, New South Wales, and California marked. Relief shown by hachures.
- Cover is orange paper with cloth spine. Includes a printed advertisement inside front cover for W. Hughes' booklet "A few particulars for the guidance of intending emigrants".
- "The dark lines show the various routes from the British Islands to the different fields of emigration with their length in miles. The extension of the map in an east and west direction, enables it to show the passage from Great Britain to the Australian Colonies, both by the eastern and western routes. The British Dominions are distinguished by a red colour.".
- Accompanied by booklet bound with map: A few particulars for the guidance of intending emigrants describing the principal fields of emigration, and showing the route, distance, and cost of passage to each place, with the class of labour to which it is best suited / by W. - National Library of Australia's copy 2 includes a final leaf at the end of the first booklet titled "The gold regions of Australia"; Contains secondary booklet to copy 1 titled "The Port of Southhampton Emigration Company's Line of packet ships to the Australian Colonies" by James Somers, Secretary. (12 pages ; 16.4 cm.); Includes additional statement at foot of map "Sold by W. Langford, 68 Leaderhall St."
- National Library of Australia's copy 2 also includes a manuscript note from a family member containing family history information. An additional manuscript note references fact on page 10 relating to California and the discovery of gold three years previous. Date of map estimated from this as 1851.
