Bill Orcher, born at Collarinabri, N.S.W. in 1936 speaks about his childhood and early life; his Aboriginality; bush foods; the dust storms; camping; living without electricity and running water; his family; his love of station work; the music; the wildlife; bush medicines; Corroborees; the musical instruments used at social functions; traditional language; the Afghan camel drivers; horse travel and the blacksmith shop; his first car; motor vehicles and unsealed roads; brothers and sisters; running brumbies and breaking them in; riding in the rodeo; the travelling music shows; being stranded on September 11th, 2001 in Alice Springs.
Orcher describes his school days; moving to Garreara station; scrub cutting; his the job with the Dept. of Main Roads (D.M.R.) from 1966; road building; his family; employment for Aboriginal people; working on stations; the conditions and pay in the shearing sheds; the early music he listened too and played; winning a talent quest at Tamworth; performing in Canberra; festivals at Bourke; Slim Dusty; Joy and Heather McKeen; Tex Morton; Chad Morgan; deciding to buy a slide steel guitar; his methods of tuning; the 1956 flood; the 1956 Shearers Strike; 1966 walk off at Wave Hill station; "From little things" song; going to Fred Hollows's funeral at Bourke; his recollection of Fred Hollows; "Cowboy Haines" a boxer from Toomelah; the boxing tents; the rodeo tents; Tex Morton's songs about his bucking horses; the Slim Dusty songs he used to sing; travelling to Darwin, Uluru Rock and Kuta Juta (The Olgas).
