Parts of this narrative, including the chart, were copied literally from John Rickman's 'Journal of Captain Cook's last voyage', London, 1781.

Dedicated to Jonathan Trumbull.

"First issued in parts to subscribers. No. I, in June, 1783, No. II. in July" (Evans).

The parts were issued in printed wrappers, with advertisements of goods for sale by Patten.

CtHi report a variant with "soldom" on the last line of p.34, p.107 l.30: "consiered", p.150 l.3 "bodies, and p.151 l.11 "pieces".
