Summary

Macleod speaks about his family background, education and working life. He was a patrol officer in the Northern Territory from 1955 to 1958. He discusses the administration of Aboriginal affairs in the Northern Territory, including the workings of the Welfare Ordinance, the policy of assimilation, and the removal of Aboriginal children. A book about his experiences as a patrol officer 'Patrol in the Dreamtime' was published in 1997.

Biography/History

Colin Macleod published a book entitled Patrol in the Dreamtime (Mandarin, 1997) about his experiences as a patrol officer in the Northern Territory in the 1950s and explaining his responsibilities to the welfare system that lead him in one instance to make the recommendation of the removal of three Aboriginal girls from their parents.
