Rees speaks about his friend artist Roland Wakeland, and the public reaction to his work; his (Ree's) early work with drawings, both in pen & pencil; the influence that the Australian Society of Artists had on the art scene in Australia; his painting techniques; why he was conservative in his choice of paints; the work of Australian artists Heysen & Meldrum & gives some recollections of his friendship with Meldrum; recollections of artist & gallery owner Julian Ashton; recollections of artist John Passmore & his works.
Rees speaks about the paintings he had chosen to include in the Australian Eye series (The serge of the sea & Suburbian Sydney); Arthur Streeton's work; work of young Australian artists such as Bret Whitely & John Olsen; importance of intensified drawing training for art students; female artists in Sydney in the 1920s, in particular Thea Proctor, compares the quality of their work with their male counterparts; some contemporaries in the Australian Society of Artists in the 1920s, including Roberts, Streeton & Lambert; his political beliefs.
