Miles Franklin, the Australian authoress. This photograph is from the collection of the late J.K. Moir and is inscribed "as Joseph Furphy knew me." Miss Franklin was born at Tumut, New South Wales, in 1895 and died in 1954. Her first published book appeared in 1901. She was awarded the Prior Memorial Prize in 1936 for All that swagger, and in 1939 for a biography of Joseph Furphy, written in collaboration with Kate Baker.
