- Map of the Moloccan Islands showing eight of these islands - Machian [i.e. Makian], Timor (or Motir) [i.e. Moti], Pottebackers Eylandt [i.e. Mare], Tidoro [i.e. Tidore], Miterra, Ternate and Haern - off the west coast of Gilolo Island [i.e. Halmhera]. They were significant Spice Islands to the Dutch as Ternate, Tidore and Gilolo supplied cloves. Bachian provided the Dutch naval base in these islands to maintain their monopolistic control over this spice. The map's decorative features are dominated by an inset of the Island of Bachian (Batjan or Bacan) in an elaborate military-motif frame as well as a Moluccan couple in the lower right corner. Reflecting the area's commercial importance, the seas display both European and local ships, two of which are engaged in battle - Sea monsters, compass roses and a decorative title cartouche have also been added. Relief is shown pictorially.
