Author, academic, journalist, broadcaster and public speaker. Susan Jean Mitchell has a Master of Arts in Drama and Film from Flinders University and a PhD in Creative Arts from the University of Western Sydney. Mitchell lectured in communications and creative writing at the University of South Australia and she is an Emeritus Professor at Flinders University. As a radio broadcaster, Mitchell worked in Adelaide, Brisbane and in Sydney where she presented a program with Maggie Tabberer on 2UE. Mitchell has also worked in television when she hosted her own series of interview programs. As a journalist, Mitchell has had a regular column in the Opinion section of The Australian and she has also written feature articles in major newspapers and magazines in Australia and the United States.
Mitchell is the author of several books, including, Tall poppies: nine successful Australian women talk to Susan Mitchell (1984), The scent of power (1996), Icons, saints & divas: intimate conversations with women who changed the world (1997), Splitting the world open: taller poppies and me (2001), Margaret Whitlam: a biography (2006), and, Stand by your man: Sonia, Tamie & Janette (2007). She has been a Director on the Literature Board of the Australia Council, on the Board of Film Australia and the Board of the South Australian Tourism Commission.
