Typed transcript, by Joseph William Pettingell, of George Edols' diary. The transcript was prepared by Joseph William Pettingell in 1962. The diary kept by George Edols covers the first two months of the voyage of the Thomas Laurie, which left London on 17 March 1834 and arrived in Hobart on 4 September 1834. Edols' diary includes references to members of his family and other passengers, and describes the weather conditions and views from the ship. There is also a photocopy of a list of passengers who arrived at the port of Hobart Town on the barque 'Thomas Laurie', 4 September 1834.

George Edols was a passenger who travelled from London to Hobart aboard the 'Thomas Laurie' in 1834. Joseph Pettingell (1799-1859) was another passenger on the Thomas Laurie who also kept a diary. Joseph William Pettingell, born in 1879 in the United States, was a descendant of Joseph Pettingell.
