Folkloric recording. 1. Ryan speaks of the history of his family settling in Milton, the family involved in cattle and dairy farming as well as timber work, his father's job of timber felling, how they felled trees, cut them and moved them later, their working conditions, the use of coastal steamers to haul timber, explains the jobs he has held such as bulldozer operator, how he left the mill after a dispute, how music was a tradition in his family and the types of tunes played, how his grandmother sang and played, the tunes common among timber workers, how he played the mouth organ from age 6, the tunes his father played, how his father played for dances and his memory of dances from ages 5 or 6, his grandmother played Lancers and his great grandfather was an M.C., places were dances were held and how the M.C. called the dances, how he plays the button accordion which he learnt from age 8 and accompanied his father even at dances, the dances held during the war years and the tunes played, how he bought his own accordion for 30 pounds and played solo for dances.
