Summary

Wright McKinney discusses her deafness, how she has dealt with it, and related issues. Topics covered include discovering she had otosclerosis, early treatments, difficulties encountered by the deaf in communicating with hearing people, how to deal with communication difficulties with individuals and with groups, different types of hearing aids, listening to music, hearing being tiring, her love of football, pointers for hearing persons, the very good booklet "Quiet please, deaf people are coming", attending conferences and seminars, lack of media interest in her deafness, poetry, deafness and blindness, coping with a child, organisations which help the deaf, challenges of lip reading, people who are born deaf, Better Hearing posters, the importance of contact, sign language, and the responsibility of the hearing when communicating with the deaf.
