- Summary:
-
"Kambah Pool Road at 1628 hrs, 18:01:2003. When driving into Chapman I saw the full crown of a large yellow box tree flare up strongly from a fire burning in low grassy fuels. The sheer ferocity of the crown fire meant to me that nothing was going to stop that fire from running off Mount Arawang and penetrating the built up areas downwind. It was a cue to remember to return to my family's home in Kambah as soon as possible. This, the Chapman/Kambah run of the McIntyres Hut fire was estimated to have had a forward spread rate in the order of 20 km/h, one of the fastest ever recorded on any fire"--Note from the photographer.
