Notes

Coastal views of Awatska [i.e. Avacha] Bay in the Kamtschatka [i.e. Kamchatka] Peninsula, part of Russia, taken by James Cook's lieutenants, Clerke and Gore. Following Cook's death in Hawaii in February 1779, they sailed his ships the Resolution and Discovery to Kamtchatka, a peninsula off Russia's eastern Siberian coast, where these views were drawn. Relief is shown pictorially.
