Lala Nicol, born 1928, at St. Paul's Mission, Mua Island, talks about her family background; leaving the Torres Strait for the mainland, Cairns; her early memories of the house parties held by the Torres Strait Islanders; the Coloured Social Club which started before WWII; the music played; the black American soldiers during the war; the songs of the era; how Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginals were not allowed into clubs; having to sit at the back of the cinema to watch picture shows; taking evacuees from the islands into their homes. Early end to interview due to tape misfunction.
