Musician and composer. Born in Trinidad in 1914, Atwell combined classical music and boogie-woogie early in her career. When her very successful career in the UK declined, she came to live in Australia in the 1970s, later becoming an Australian citizen. She died in Sydney in 1983. Atwell is best known as a honky-tonk pianist.
