Laurel Prince, born 1926 in Christchurch New Zealand, speaks about family background and education; degree in chemistry; belonging to drama society; working with Ngaio Marsh; learning classical ballet; moving to Australia; joining Margaret Barr's group 1950 - 1954; marriage to Rolf Prince in 1950; moving to England in 1954; Ernst Bourke; returning to New Zealand after their first child was born; Rolf teaching at Canterbury University and then Sydney University; attending Barr's shows; contact with Annette Hood and introducing Annette to Barr's dance style; instruments and music used by Barr; Australian folk dance and her membership of the 'Australian Heritage Dancers'; Dave De Hugard; Folk Festivals; her son Robin. Laurel Prince was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and graduated with a degree in chemistry from Canterbury University. She married Rolf Prince in 1950. Laurel became interested in dance, and joined Margaret Barr Dance Drama Group between 1950 and 1954, after arriving in Sydney. She is involved in work with disabled children, and has a Diploma of Education in the subject. Laurel has an interest in the field of Australian Folk Dance and is a member of the 'Australian Heritage Dancers' and in 2004 toured China with this group.
