Jim [the Jaw Breaker] Fogarty started his fistic career under Prize Ring Rules but saw little future in that and quickly took to the Queensberry code. With the strength of a bull, he was big trouble for anyone who took him lightly, or got careless, Fogarty claimed the Australian middleweight crown when he defeated the great Billy McCarthy in 1887. Some of the greats he met went on to become legends. Men like Mick Dooley, Jim Hall, and Joe Goddard.
