- Summary:
-
Development of Castlecrag dates from the 1860s, following the auctioning of land in 1856, with land used mainly for market gardens with some weekend homes and boatsheds. Until subdivision and land sales in the 1880s the area remained largely undeveloped bushland. Some development occurred in the 1920s when the Greater Sydney Development Association (Walter Burley Griffin's company) developed 90 acres of land in the southern section, however only a few houses were built.
