MS 9983 comprises correspondence, reports, research material, photographs and printed material relating to Ian Diamond's professional career as archivist of the Central Archives of Fiji and the Western Pacific High Commission and the Public Records Office of Hong Kong. The collection also includes material relating to his early years as a student at the University of Adelaide and his research interests in aspects of the history of Fiji (4 boxes, 1 fol. box, 1 fol. item).
- Biography/History:

Archivist. Arthur Ian Diamond was educated at St Peter's College and the University of Adelaide where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952 and a Master of Arts degree in 1954. Diamond was appointed to the Archives Division of the Commonwealth National Library in 1956. He subsequently joined the British colonial service and served as archivist of Fiji and the Western Pacific, 1958-1971, and of Hong Kong, 1971-1985. In 1974, as a consultant to UNESCO, he reported on the establishment of a national archives in Afghanistan.
