Summary

Marco Polo was built in 1850-1851 in Saint John, New Brunswick. It was a passenger ship and freighter, carrying emigrants to the colony of Australia and playing a major role in the emerging global economy of the nineteenth century. In 1852, it sailed from Liverpool to Melbourne and back in less than six months, shattering previous records. It was wrecked on Prince Edward Island in 1883.
