The papers primarily relate to the Bringing Them Home report, and Wilson's involvement with related activities and organisations, including the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation, National Sorry Day Committee, Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation and the Polly Farmer Foundation, ca. 1995-ca. 2000. There is also a small selection of earlier papers, 1970s-1980s, relating to various interests, including the Uniting Church (8 boxes).

Lawyer, judge and social activist. Sir Ronald Darling Wilson served on the High Court of Australia, 1979-1989, and was chancellor of Murdoch University from 1980 to 1995. He was President of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, 1990-1997, and with Mick Dodson, led the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families which produced the Bringing them home report (1997). A man of faith, Wilson became the first lay president of the Uniting Church. In 1988 Wilson was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for service to the law, and in 2001 he was awarded a Centenary Medal for service as a Justice of the High Court of Australia and to human rights.
