Summary

One medieval parchment leaf containing original Latin manumission, with a second modern leaf containing a modern translation of the text in English. Also accompanied by a typed translation made in about 1970 by Dr. J.L.M. Gully, London, a chronology of events between 1199 and 1265 and a copy of the Maggs' sale catalogue entry from catalogue 959 'Autograph letters and historical documents', Summer 1974, p. 32. The Certificate of manumission is a transaction whereby villeins Robert, William and Richard, sons of Richard Tret of Newtown, Lancashire, England acquired, via Ralph le Massy, their freedom from Robert Banastre Lord of Makerfield.
