Summary

Developing a National Agenda for Early Childhood is a major Australian Government initiative. Early childhood is a complex area with many factors combining to influence children's development. Their health and wellbeing depends on what happens to them as individuals, as part of a family, as members of communities and within Australian society as a whole. This report represents the end of the first important step in developing the National Agenda. It reflects a wide cross section of views from academics, government officials and workers in the welfare, health and children's sectors; Indigenous people and families from diverse cultures; from grandparents, aunts and uncles; and, of course, from mothers and fathers themselves.
