- Map showing the internal politics and alliances in Europe before the outbreak of World War II in 1939.
- Title supplied by cataloguer.
- Text block in lower right corner: Growth of two conflicting principles of government - Communism and Fascism - has complicated the always delicate international situation in western Europe. This map shows the new line-up, with its constant threat of war. The internal politics of the various countries are indicated by color; military alliances by shading. France, with its Socialist government, seems to be swinging towards Communism, long established in Russia. Spain has been torn by civil strife between extreme Socialists and Fascists. Military strength of the nations, as indicated, includes standing army and organized reserves ; naval strength is given in gross tonnage.
