Daley, an Aboriginal Australian, discusses racial attitudes in the Condobolin Region, N.S.W. She speaks of her father who was a returned Aboriginal soldier, prejudices against returned Aboriginal soldiers, her life on the Condobolin Mission such as living conditions, the frequency of floods, though Welfare checked on the Mission not many were taken from the Mission, her toys and games, her baptism at age 12, how the church on the Mission operated including the singing of the Gospels and hymns from the Alexander Hymn books, the housing on the Mission, the type of education and teachers available at the Mission, how the indigenous culture was transmitted from the elders, how the local Aboriginal reserve called The Murie was formed near Condobolin, her easy life at the Mission but how Aborigines were segregated by a chain across the aisle at the local cinema.
Daley speaks of the general treatment by the local white people as very good, how dances were held on the Mission and the dances performed with accordion plays and some playing the accordion and many playing the leaf and singing around the fire, learning gospel songs and hymns, the local Aboriginal beliefs and myths included birds as omens, hairy men, bunyips in the river and telling the sex of the baby.
