Simin Farzan was born in Teheran, Iran, 1947. After completing a degree in counselling at the University of Teheran she became a school counsellor. In 1979 during the revolution in Iran her family fled to Lesotho in Southern Africa. The Iranian government refused to review their passport and in 1985 they gained refugee status in Australia. Farzan worked as a volunteer in Canberra with the Bahai community's refugee support service. In 2002 she worked as a case manager for refugees at Centacare.
