- Summary:
-
Psalms are songs. They are powerful songs of prayer - hymns for the worship of God. Pilgrims sang the Psalms as they travelled to Jerusalem and it is their link with a journey that so appropriately connects the Psalms with the life and work of Salvatore Zofrea. Zofrea is a pre-eminent expressionist in the story of Australian art and an unquestionably dedicated one. Thirty years ago he declared his intention to paint the one hundred and fifty Psalms. The themes of the Psalms are identifiable in Zofrea's paintings; however his interpretation goes beyond the literal and references a wide range of influences from Renaissance European art to the Australian bush.
