- Summary:
-
"China was the largest economy in the world before it went into a steep decline in the early years of the nineteenth century. In 2008 China will complete three decades of broad-based market-oriented macroeconomic reforms and restructuring. This paper shows that in this short span of three decades China's achievements are unparalleled in the annals of economic history, and that this is a veritable renaissance for the Chinese economy. Vertiginous GDP growth and integration with the regional and global economies have turned China into one of the heavyweights of the global economic system. China now makes its presence felt both regionally and globally. It has so far played its global role with aplomb, skill and finesse."
