- Summary:
-
"This book examines the changing fortunes of Australian Trade unionism in the past 40 years, a crucial period in its history. In the late 1960s, Australian trade unionism was on the flood tide. By the 2000s Australian union membership and power was ebbing away. Factors responsible include hostile conservative governments interspersed with periods of Labor in power, a wholesale shift in employer attitudes, radical changes to the structure of the workforce, neoliberal globalisation, and the end to the post-war economic boom. This book draws together the experience of Australian unionism over the 40-year period, compares it with the international experience, and concludes by pointing to strategies for union renewal and revival."--Provided by publisher.
