Buddhist concept of heaven and hell, retelling in verse. This illuminated 19th century Thai manuscript tells the story of the Buddhist saint Phra Malai. Tales of Phra Malai's journeys to heaven and hell preached Buddhism in an accessible way and remain popular in Thailand and Southeast Asia to this day.
