Loyau an Adelaide journalist; first hand narratives by Senator Colonel James Rowell, of the Reedbeds Cavalry of South Australian Volunteer Military Forces; Lieutenant Colonal Thomas Hancock a journalist and a member of the volunteers; Lieutenant Colonels R.R. Baldwin and B. Solomon of the volunteers provided information and notes taken by them at military lectures. Further information was obtained from Messrs. A.N. Day, the General Traffic Manager, and Mr. D.L. Smith, the Receiver of Revenue South Australian Railways, Mr Percy Trevor, papers of Mr. G.H.C. Meyer and Commander O.L.A.
