- "The chart shows great detail of Hong Kong Island, Lantau, Macao, Canton and localities, forts, islands along the then-named Canton River (now more commonly called the Pearl River), also showing the Boca Tigris estuary and the positions of the Small Bar and Second Bar used as anchorage points in the 19th century, as well as Dane Island, French Island and Whampoa Island seen in China Trade paintings of the period. The chart also has an inset showing the position of the British squadron off Hanan Island just outside Canton City during the first Anglo-Chinese War ('Opium War') of 1838-1842, which resulted, among others, in Hong Kong being ceded to Great Britain in 1842."--Acquisition documentation.
