Folkloric recording. Brian Lloyd Clarke talks about his early life and country influences; his schooling; parental influences and family life; early work experiences; meeting up with musicians, the journey with them to Nth Queensland (1960); Holloways Beach; Cairns; the group split up and being left to fend for himself, survival; meeting with 'Sydney Push' drop-outs; his boat purchase and use of Maritime Law; meeting Jack Hansen, a crocodile hunter, working with him, the nature of this work, night hunting; a journey down the Normanby River; bush tucker; the trip to Perth for his National Service induction, obtaining a deferment, 1970; moving back north; 'Pact Folk' in Sydney; singers and performers at Holloways Beach; living on the 'dole'; buying a guitar, learning to play; getting together to purchase joint blocks of land in Kuranda, as 'tenants in common' (1971), clearing the land and building; earning an income; community based markets; the development of the commercial market; community developments; Rosebud Farm Collective.
Clarke discusses the beginnings of the folk-band, 'Rainbow House Band', musicians, repertoire; sound system construction, front of house mixing; promoting concerts and touring; public festivals; 'Frogs Restaurant', Kuranda, the 'Frogs Band'; the origins of the Kuranda Amphitheatre, the grant of Crown Land, the setting up of the committee and construction of infrastructure, the establishment of Amphitheatre Society, hiring out of venue to International and National acts; his work in the area running rain forest tours and establishing a boat touring business on the Barron River, operating for 26 years; his involvement in community theatre; the development of the local Tjabaki Dance Theatre; David Quinn; the importance of the Kuranda Community as an example to other communities around Australia.
