Politician. Ros Kelly was an Australian Labor Party politician in the ACT and federal governments. In 1974 Kelly became the first female to be elected to the ACT House of Assembly. As federal member for Canberra, Kelly was secretary of the Federal Labor Caucus from 1981 to 1987. In 1987, Kelly became the first Labor woman federal minister in the House of Representatives, holding the portfolios of Defence, Science and Personnel, 1987-1988; Communications and Aviation Support, 1988-1990; Arts, Sport, Environment, Tourism and Territories, 1991-1993; Environment, Sport and Territories, 1993-1994; Arts, Sport, Environment, Tourism and Territories, 1994-1995. Kelly also served as Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on the Status of Women until 1994.
