MS Acc08.127 comprises source materials, including ephemera, news clippings, court cases and submissions, legal briefs, photographs, drafts, notebooks, speeches, and academic papers, and correspondence (mostly with publishers) relating to Sexton's various books, including Illusions of power, The great crash, Uncertain justice, War for the asking, and The legal mystique. There is also correspondence and papers relating to Sextons's work in legal, literary, government and public affairs, including becoming solicitor-general, regulation of transnational corporations, the Fabian Society, Society of Labor Lawyers, Australian Labor Party and the NSW State Rail Authority (16 boxes).

Lawyer and author. As an author, Michael G. Sexton has written books on law, Australian politics and history, including a definitive work on the dismissal of Gough Whitlam. He has also reviewed books for various Australian journals, including the Sydney morning herald. Sexton was appointed solicitor general for New South Wales in 1998. Between 1987 and 1991 he was a member of the NSW Library Council and from 1996 to 1998 he was Chairman of the NSW State Rail Authority and a member of the NSW Public Transport Authority. Sexton's books on Australian history and politics include Illusions of power: the fate of a reform government (1979), The great crash: the short life and sudden death of the Whitlam government (1979 and 2005), and War for the asking: Australia's Vietnam secrets (1981). Books on legal matters written by Sexton include The regulation of foreign investment in Australia (with Alexander Adamovich, 1981), The legal mystique: the role of lawyers in Australian society (with Laurence W. Maher, 1982), and Uncertain justice: inside Australia's legal system (2000).
