"Northbridge is the bustling, cosmopolitan hospitality and entertainment precinct in inner city Perth. Established in name in 1981 after a public competition, the area is characterized by its proximity to the Central Business District. A stone's throw from the major retail precinct, it is a fascinating and complex area with a long history and home to nearly fifty different nationalities and ethnic groups. These papers, delivered at the 2007 and 2008 Northbridge History Studies Days, reflect the diversity and the richness of the area - a special place in the fabric of the city with much to offer in its vitality and vigorous culture. Distinguished scholars and community leaders alike have contributed to this volume, reflecting in part the diversity of engagement that Northbridge engenders." - back cover.
