Rodney Smith speaks about his interests in playing bagpipes; his parents; his first concert and competition with the Moorabbin Pipe band in Melbourne; the culture of the band (1980's); his various roles in the band; his piping life in the 1990's; the influence of the Victorian Police Pipe Band; moving to Nunawading Pipe Band; the Australian Pipe Band Championships at Geelong; reasons for joining the Queensland Police Pipe Band; moving to the Western Australian Police Pipe Band; returning to Brisbane and setting up the Queensland Highlanders Pipe Band; winning the World Pipe band Championships in Grade 2 (2001); the difference between the culture of Pipe Bands in Queensland to Victoria; joining the Ipswich Pipe band; being the Pipe Major of the Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band; moving to the City of Brisbane Pipe Band (2006); other highlights in his musical career; his involvement in original tunes; his influences in setting up Pipe Bands; his passion for teaching.
