Meltdown is an annual festival held in London in June at the Southbank Centre, and which features a mix of music, art, performance and film. Each year the festival chooses an established music artist or act as director of the event. Nick Cave was the guest director in 1999, and his invited artists included the Bad Seeds, Ewen Bremner, Jarvis Cocker, Jock Scott, Mark E Smith and others in Sacred & Profane, Blixa Bargeld, Sir Les Patterson, Dame Edna Everage, Kylie Minogue, Rolf Harris and Germaine Greer. Previous Meltdown directors include: Elvis Costello, David Bowie, Patti Smith, Lee Scratch Perry, Morrissey, Jarvis Cocker, Nick Cave, Scott Walker, John Peel and Ornette Coleman.
