Alan Lofthouse was a pharmacist who acted as medical officer on the 1950 tribophysics expedition to Mount Olga, Ayers Rock and Mount Connor in the Northern Territory. His Chevrolet Master Tourer was one of the expedition vehicles. The expedition comprised twelve men, most of whom were employed at a Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research tribophysics laboratory housed in the grounds of the University of Melbourne.
