Wilson, unionist, member of Council of Amalgamated Engineering Union, speaks of the 1917 General Strike in NSW involving railway and tramways men and supported by labourers, drivers, seamen and others over the introduction of the American Taylor card system, how the Press conducted a hate campaign owing to our involvement in WWI, how the government attempted to break the strike, as a result of the strike being defeated victimisation of unionists extended for years which lead to the Royal Commission instituted by the Storey Labour Government, despite his testimony the Commission failed to stop the victimisation, how he and others found alternative work, the frequency of exploitation, how he eventually in 1922 gained a position of maintenance fitter and then shop steward, his involvement with the Amalgamated Engineering Union (AEU) leading to the position of President of the Branch, how he first knew Ben Chifley then an engine driver who had lead the Strike in the Bathurst region and their mutual involvement in the schisms within the Labour Party in the late 1920's, his transfer from Bathurst to Eveleigh Carriage Works in Sydney in 1931, the opening of the AEU Building in Apr. 1930, how the Depression challenged the validity of the unions and how the AEU developed an action plan of reforms adopted in Dec. 1933 and later implemented over many years, how Arthur Searle from Cardiff began their first official journal in 1937 The Magnet, his years as Secretary, Council of Railway Shop Committees from 1933 to 1946, Divisional Organiser from 1947 and his continuing membership.
